Sheen Stables Fitness Academy
Sheen stables fitness academy provides sports, fitness and educational services to children and young adults living in care or in the social care system.
About Us
At Sheen Stables Academy we understand the many benefits of being physically fit and healthy and how that has a immeasurable impact on peoples psychological well-being through channeling their energies into positive pursuits giving a sense of satisfaction and achievement that children from challenging social and economic backgrounds often do not get the chance to experience.
We aim through our partnership with educational content providers to give young care leavers, or young people from disadvantaged backgrounds aged 16-18 the chance to attain a combined level 2/3 personal training diploma fully backed by CIMPSA (the leading governing body in the uk fitness sector). With this level 3 diploma young people are equipped with the knowledge and skills to work in the leisure and fitness industry as a personal trainer and class instructor which can lead to management opportunities in gyms and fitness facilities nationwide as well as provide a pathway into higher education studying for a degree in sports science for example.
Mission Statement
Through our educational opportunities we aim to improve the outcomes of young care leavers and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds by giving them an officially recognised nationwide qualification that they can use to secure employment or further their educational prospects to provide a better future for themselves.
The Stats
The importance for young care leavers to have achieved a level of educational success post 16 is shown in a recent study by Oxford university from March 2023.
It sited that:
“Care leavers considerably less likely on average to be in education, employment or training”
With:
“Care leavers in England are over ten times more likely than their peers to be not in education, employment or training (NEET) in their 21st year”
Recommendations from this study included amongst other things:
• national government should provide additional ‘top up’ funding for care leavers to participate in apprenticeships and other schemes to ensure that they are not financially disadvantaged.
• Targeted pre employment and pre apprenticeship support to prepare young people with the most complex needs to take steps towards work related opportunities should be given.
What We Do
With these government recommendations in mind we at Sheen Stables Academy feel we are ideally placed as an educational provider to help young people to successfully make the transition from care leavers to living independently going into their 21st year.
